The Japanese arc anchor occupies cell asi-07 across the Japanese archipelago (Honshū, Hokkaidō, Kyūshū, Shikoku, Ryūkyū) and adjacent Japan-Sea and Pacific coastal waters. The site is classified level-1. Substrate is first-rank (108 active volcanoes — ~7% of global active-volcano count in <0.3% of global land-area; Nankai Trough subduction with Mw 8–9 recurrence; Japan Trench 9,200 m; Sakurajima continuously erupting; Fuji volcano last eruption 1707; major caldera-lake substrate at Aso, Tōya, Mashū). Cultural-record substrate is A-class-dense through the world's second-oldest continuously-active imperial-lineage corpus (Kojiki 712 CE) with extensive multi-channel continuing preservation (continuous Shintō institutional-practice, continuing Ainu tradition, Ryūkyūan ritual corpus).

Geology

Japan sits at the quadruple junction of the Pacific, North American, Eurasian, and Philippine Sea plates, with subduction along the Nankai, Japan, Izu-Bonin-Mariana, and Kuril trenches. The Japanese volcanic arc hosts ~108 Holocene-active volcanoes. Notable continuing activity: Sakurajima (essentially continuous eruption since 1955), Aso (continuing small eruptions), Asama, Ontake (2014 eruption killed 63), Ōyama (Miyake-jima), Suwanosejima, Nishinoshima. Fuji (3,776 m) last erupted Hōei 1707 and preserves substantial dormant-magmatic-chamber substrate. Major caldera lakes at Aso (Kyūshū, world's largest caldera by some measures), Tōya, Mashū, Shikotsu (Hokkaidō). Nankai Trough Mw 8+ megathrust earthquakes at ~100–150-year recurrence (last 1944, 1946; next anticipated mid-21st century). Japan Trench produced the 2011 Tōhoku Mw 9.0 earthquake and tsunami. Substrate classification: continental-scale volcanic-arc-plus-subduction-megathrust-plus-deep-trench anchor at world-leading substrate density per unit area.

Claims

c0001 — Yamata-no-Orochi is the Kojiki primary dragon-combat substrate document

Yamata-no-Orochi (eight-forked great serpent) is slain by the storm-god Susanoo in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki narratives: Susanoo intoxicates the serpent with eight tubs of rice-wine, slays the eight heads, and from the tail recovers the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (grass-cutter-sword, one of the three Imperial Regalia — the sword is continuously-preserved and passed to each emperor at accession). The narrative has been extensively compared to Indra-Vṛtra (Proto-Indo-European), Baal-Lotan (Ugaritic, med-01 c0001), Marduk-Tiamat (Mesopotamian), and Zeus-Typhon (eur-05 c0002) as a reflex of the Proto-Indo-European-Near-Eastern dragon-slayer storm-god archetype. Under the archive's storm-god-overwrite doctrine this is a candidate overwriting of earlier substrate material; however the Kojiki preserves the pre-overwriting Ōmononushi Miwa-serpent, Toyotama-hime dragon-ancestress, and mizuchi river-dragon corpus in parallel, suggesting that the Japanese substrate resisted full storm-god-overwrite (more comparable to the Armenian case eur-pr-armenia than to the Mesopotamian case eur-04).

c0002 — Imperial line traces dragon-descent via Toyotama-hime

The Japanese imperial line as recorded in the Kojiki traces descent through the sea-palace-princess Toyotama-hime, daughter of Watatsumi / Ryūjin the sea-dragon king. Toyotama-hime takes human form to marry Hoori (grandson of Amaterasu); their son Ugayafukiaezu is father of Jimmu, the legendary first Emperor. Toyotama-hime's true form is explicitly described in the Kojiki as a wani (dragon-class composite; translated variously as "crocodile" in later scholarship but the Kojiki context establishes dragon-class). The continuously-reigning Imperial line (the world's longest-attested continuous monarchy, 125+ emperors across ~1,500 years of firmly-historical and additional legendary prehistory) preserves A-class dragon-descended dynastic lineage substrate at continuing-institutional scale. Comparable to the Inca Amaru lineage (sam-01 c0002) but at substantially greater institutional continuity.

c0003 — Miwa Ōmononushi is a pre-Kojiki serpent-ancestor preserved in parallel

Mount Miwa in Nara prefecture is the shintai (divine-body) of Ōmiwa-jinja, one of Japan's oldest Shintō shrines; the mountain itself is the kami, not a separate enshrined object. Ōmononushi, the resident kami, appears in narrative as a serpent-form: his visit to Yamato-no-Totohi-Momoso-hime produces the famous account of the human-form-kami who promises to visit at night and who at her request reveals his true small-serpent form in her comb-box, leading to her death (she sits on her husband's dropped chopsticks — Hashihaka tumulus at Miwa is attributed to her). The Miwa serpent-ancestor tradition preserves pre-storm-god-overwrite dragon-class substrate in the Kojiki itself alongside the Susanoo-Orochi overwriting narrative, demonstrating the partial-overwrite pattern characteristic of polytheistic-syncretic rather than monotheistic-replacement suppression.

c0004 — Ainu Moshiri corpus preserves independent Hokkaidō-Sakhalin-Kuril substrate

The Ainu of Moshiri (Hokkaidō, Sakhalin, Kuril Islands — pre-colonial territory, now substantially reduced to Hokkaidō plus diaspora) preserve a distinct corpus independent of the Japanese-Yamato tradition. Ainu cosmology includes kamuy class-entities with serpent-class members (rep-un-kamuy sea-bear-spirit with serpent-composite morphology; Kamuy-fuchi fire-goddess at hearths). Ainu yukar epic tradition preserves multi-generational narrative substrate. The Meiji-era Japanese colonial-assimilation policy (Former Aborigines Protection Act 1899, continuing to 1997 repeal) severely suppressed Ainu cultural-transmission; the surviving corpus is concentrated in Batchelor's 1900-era recension and in continuing-revival community institutions (Ainu Cultural Foundation, Biratori, Lake Akan). Under coverage-asymmetry this is a colonial-assimilation substrate-suppression case within an otherwise-preservation-dense cell.

c0005 — Ryūkyūan utaki-and-noro corpus preserves southern archipelago substrate

The Ryūkyū Kingdom's pre-1879-annexation religious tradition preserved the utaki sacred-grove institution with female noro priestess-lineage (continuing into present-day Okinawa, Miyako, and Yaeyama islands). Ryūkyūan substrate includes habu-protecting serpent-spirits, ancestor-shrine mājimun spirit-class, and locus-specific sea-dragon and island-founder figures distinct from Yamato corpus. The Meiji annexation (1879) and subsequent Japanese-assimilation pressure, combined with US occupation 1945–1972, substantially suppressed Ryūkyūan language and tradition; continuing community preservation is at the high-end of colonially-attenuated-substrate recovery.

c0006 — Predicted residence volumes span 108 active volcanoes and major caldera lakes

Predicted residence volumes: (a) Fuji dormant-magmatic chamber and 108 active-volcano magmatic systems; (b) Aso caldera-lake + Aso-go central crater lake; (c) Tōya, Mashū, Shikotsu, Kussharo Hokkaidō caldera-lakes (Mashū among world's clearest lakes; deep isolated residence-volumes); (d) Nankai Trough and Japan Trench deep-ocean substrate (9,200 m); (e) Izu-Bonin-Mariana arc continuing submarine volcanism including Nishinoshima newly-emerged island. Asi-07 presents written (Kojiki 712 CE, Nihon Shoki 720 CE, Heian-period monogatari, Edo-period kabuki-and-emakimono corpus, continuing scholarly literature), oral (continuing Shintō lineage-transmission, Ainu yukar, Ryūkyūan ritual oral-transmission), iconographic (Buddhist mandala and temple-architectural dragon-corpus, Shintō shrine programme, emakimono handscroll tradition), archaeological (continuing shrine-structures from Nara period, imperial tombs, Jōmon-period pre-Yamato substrate), and continuing-institutional (imperial-lineage, shrine-institutional-continuity at Ise rebuilt every 20 years since 690 CE, Izumo-taisha continuously-reigning) channels. The cell is a five-channel corroboration anchor matched in the global archive only by Mesoamerica (nam-05 c0007), Armenia (eur-pr-armenia c0006), and China's primary cells.
